Artist's Description
Deciduous bittersweet vines lose their leaves in late autumn to reveal small, vividly colored berries in yellow, orange and red. This mosaic originated as a rectangular selection from a digital photograph of bittersweet growing alongside the Chesapeake & Delaware Canal (USA); the segment was chosen for its textural interest in combining berry clusters with tangled vines. Simple horizontal and vertical mirroring of this digital "tile" produced this mosaic's elaborate pattern.
About Jennifer Nelson
I have long admired the ethos and creativity of British socialist and artist William Morris and the Arts & Craft Movement he inspired. He could look at the natural world thriving around his idyllic Kelmscott Manor and draw nature-themed designs for wallpaper, tapestries, book-page illuminations, tile glazing, and wood carving that realized his vision of "transform[ing] the world with Beauty." I want to contribute Beauty to our world, too, through my nature photography and my explorations of tessellated digital art creation.
